Set in the UK, ‘Sound System Stories’ explores the origins of a local sound system in Tottenham from the late 70’s to the present day, through the memories and stories of Actor and DJ Wil Johnson.
Join Lyrici Arts and acclaimed actor Wil Johnson on Friday, 17th July 2026, in this new one-man show, celebrating a personal history as a DJ: the music, memories, and Jamaican heritage.
Rooted in lived experience, the performance journeys from early Friday after-school sessions gathered around a family hi-fi to first parties, first gigs, and the evolution of sound system culture.
From Janet Kay’s Silly Games echoing through the house, to school dances, street culture and community celebrations, this is a story of growing up surrounded by music.
A time when speakers were the size of wardrobes, when sound systems brought people together, and when music was not just heard, but felt.
